A report by McKinsey states that it became a quarter-trillion-dollar industry after the pandemic, skyrocketing investments in virtual healthcare to 3X levels in 2020. And correspondingly there has also been an approximately 13% to 17% increase in the utilization of telehealth services with improved treatment outcomes and accessibility.

About HealthSapiens

About HealthSapiens

Karim Babay, Founder and CEO of HealthSapiens, established HealthSapiens in New York in 2006 with the motto of creating a seamlessly decentralized all-in-one medical and mental healthcare platform with no accessibility barriers worldwide.

HealthSapiens is a 24×7 (holidays included) web-based comprehensive healthcare platform that aims to improve conventional healthcare and replace traditional solutions with convenient, economical, yet high-quality services to patients whenever and wherever they need it.

The platform easily connects patients with licensed medical practitioners through their preferred modes of communication, such as video calls, phone calls, or email.

HealthSapiens covers all 50 states in the USA, offering a hassle-free replacement for standard medical treatment with unrestricted online access to doctors and expert healthcare professionals in their respective fields around the globe as well as around the clock.

Now let’s get to the detailed review to find out more about HealthSapiens.

HealthSapeins Review 2023: Should you go for Therapy at HealthSapiens?

We have attempted to give a well-rounded review of HealthSapiens, covering as many aspects as possible to understand if it is a legit online healthcare platform.

1. How Does it Work?

How does it work?

The first step in the process is to register and call the HealthSapiens counseling line, where I was put in touch with a licensed therapist. For a change, I liked it as I had to skip commuting and waiting in a clinic. Also, I was relieved as I did not have to pay for any hourly or face-to-face consultation charges, unlike traditional therapy sessions.

It was quick and easy for me in comparison to conventional counseling and even conventional approaches taken by online therapy platforms nowadays.

I was not asked to fill out extensive virtual forms or questionnaires and share too much personal information beforehand. So, the initial step was basic registration which definitely saved a lot of time and effort because I could directly talk to my therapist via video, email messages, chat, and phone. And I also had the option to switch my therapist whenever I wanted.

During the course of my membership, I had unlimited access to my counseling sessions. Everything from preliminary evaluation to holistic mental therapy based on the analysis of my condition was a part of my subscription.

For medical appointments that are not related to mental counseling, you can easily schedule a consultation in about 15 minutes using the patient portal or the toll-free number. There are no co-pays or visit fees to be paid, and your prescription will be emailed to your nearest/local pharmacy.

Please note I had to enter my payment details (credit card/debit card) before I purchased my plan. This is a subscription-based service, pretty much like Netflix or Amazon Prime. So, if you are comfortable with sharing your basic card info with the platform, go for it.

2. Pricing/Affordability

Pricing/Affordability

HealthSapiens is affordable compared to conventional therapy, and it technically costs me less than $50 USD per session. What is impressive is that the in-person visit therapy option was also included in my subscription. So, in case you are interested in switching counseling modes with your therapist, this is a good feature.

My online mental therapy plan was worth $49.25 USD per week, billed on a monthly basis.

HealthSapiens Medical Care

Let me also give you a quick overview of the medical plan applicable to both individuals and families. The platform is super transparent when it comes to pricing, and there is no confusion as there is only a single subscription plan costing $35 USD per month.

This is the Household plan offered by HealthSapiens that can provide general healthcare services to you and your family with a maximum of 5 members, as the membership allows you to create 6 user accounts.

Here are some other benefits/inclusions:

  • 24X7 doctor support available
  • $0 USD co-pay and per-visit fee
  • You can cancel anytime
  • All prescriptions will be sent to your preferred pharmacy
  • Appointments can be scheduled in 15 minutes with no limit on the number of consultations

3. Insurance Coverage

Insurance Coverage

There is no insurance coverage available at HealthSapiens. The money paid goes to the therapists as there are no other third parties involved in the process.

4. Accessibility

The services at HealthSapiens are available in all 50 states across the country. So, the platform scores full marks when it comes to accessibility. One of my friends from Greenville, South Carolina, is now a loyal subscriber of HealthSapiens. It is amazing how smoothly this online healthcare model works with no geographical barriers at all.

They should ideally expand to other countries to further democratize and improve healthcare around the world.

5. Privacy

Privacy

Standard privacy protocols are followed for both medical and psychological consultations, whether online or offline.

Most of the reviews on Trustpilot and similar websites are positive, stating that clients were quite satisfied with the treatments provided, customer service, the responsiveness of the medical /mental health practitioners, and the privacy policy as well.

So, there are no serious privacy concerns, as your private medical records will be kept 100% confidential. However, the website states that your browsing data can be accessed by third-party providers for business or advertising purposes.

6. Treatments Available

Treatments Available

HealthSapiens has certified medical professionals qualified to treat a variety of medical issues, including mental conditions. Here are some of them, but this list is not exhaustive.

  • Mood disorders
  • Bulimia
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Relationship problems
  • Substance abuse
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety and stress issues
  • Depression
  • Grief management
  • Parenting and teen issues etc

When it comes to medical counseling at HealthSapiens, the platform can help you with alleviating the symptoms of the following health problems:

  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Eye infection
  • Headache
  • Flu
  • Stomach aches
  • Yeast infection
  • Cold and cough
  • Ear problems
  • Sinus issues
  • Rashes or any other skin issues
  • Allergies
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Pneumonia
  • Addressing small wounds
  • Bronchitis

Emergency care is not included in this. In case it is a life-threatening situation, you must urgently call an ambulance.

7. Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Highly affordable medical and psychotherapy consultations, both online and in-person
  • 24×7 availability of services
  • It is super convenient to register, book appointments, and switch therapists or doctors
  • No hidden charges, no co-pay, and an upfront subscription-based pricing structure for both medical care and mental therapy
  • Supported by a good network of board-certified therapists and licensed doctors
  • You can book unlimited appointments
  • Multiple communication options, such as phone, chat, email, text, video, etc, based on your schedule and convenience
  • Medical care for you and your family with prescription management and refill services
  • Available in all 50 states of the US

Cons

  • Limited psychotherapy with no prescription refills and medication management
  • No insurance coverage is available
  • There are no therapy services for couples and families
  • HealthSapiens does not prescribe anti-depressants – basically no prescription for your mental health treatments; only counseling is available

How Does it Stack up Against its Competitors?

How does it stack up against its competitors?

HealthSapiens mental counseling neither includes prescription management nor family/couples therapy. The treatments are only focused on individuals or young adults. Whereas the competitors have gone beyond basic mental therapy.

However, HealthSapiens is like an integrated healthcare platform and also offers medical counseling with prescription management and refill services (not applicable to mental healthcare). This is unique and majorly absent in most competitor platforms such as BetterHelp, Cerebral, Talkspace, Brightside, etc.

Rethink My Healthcare/My Therapy is possibly the only direct competitor, but it does not follow a membership-based pricing structure. Therefore, because of the upfront pricing that does not change with location, treatment needs, preferences, and individual specialist rates, I would rate HealthSapiens higher than Rethink My Therapy.

Conclusion

Is HealthSapiens a legit therapy platform? Yes, it is! After reviewing all the features and major offerings of the platform, I would recommend it to treat and get counseling for your mental disorders.

But HealthSapiens may not be the right service for you if you have a crisis situation or severe mental illnesses that require constant monitoring and strict prescription management on a regular basis.
